Three towns down
I was pretty excited to track down Brighton's Lynch Woods Park, which is located about as far west in Brighton as you can get. It would mark the last of the Brighton parks I needed to visit, and therefore mean that I had completely finished three towns.
I wasn't sure what I would find, since although Brighton includes it in their list of parks, there's very little limited information about it on the Brighton website. The map that I found is not really a trail map so much as a plan for future development of the park. Since the map has a June 2009 date on it I hoped that maybe that development had happened. But clearly that's not the case.
I drove down Crittenden Road, which according to the plans and Google Maps seemed to be the most likely place to find a parking lot or a sign, but I saw neither. I went down dead-end Mortimer Avenue -- which is a gravel road with one house on it -- in hopes that I might find a parking lot at its far end, but the only thing that greeted me was a deer.
Although I was totally unsuccessful in my quest to explore this park, there apparently is more there than meets the eye. According to RocWiki.org,
"Lynch Woods Park is a park operated by the Brighton in the Western portion of the town between West Henrietta Road and East River Road. Access is primarily on foot but there are a couple rough parking spots along the edge of Crittenden Road. Currently this is only an undeveloped passive park with extensive wetlands. The town is considering its long term development with improved parking and hiking trails, but this will await the availability of funding."
The listing also says there is one short rough trail although I have no idea where that would be.
So I consider this park explored enough to be able to say... don't bother trying to visit it. Yet.
